Juelia doesn't defeat monsters. She brings clouded-over children back to who they really are. Purified Gloomies get their cute selves back, and the gloomy sky clears up too.
Cloud children born from the scars people have left on the Earth. Each one was once a little piece of clear sky.
Puffy's home. Jewel trees grow above the clouds there, and every night they sprout star candies. Sparkle Land's light comes from the sky that Earth's children look up at and say, “So pretty!”
Being Juelia is a secret between just Jua and Puffy. Even her best friend Yuna doesn't know yet.

One night after the rain stops, the jewel box in Jua's drawer starts to glow all by itself. Puffy, a fairy with cheeks full of jewels, appears and says, “You're the Juelia who will save the Earth!” Transforming into Moonlight Ruby for the first time, Jua gasps at the unfamiliar girl looking back from the mirror.
Far off in the sky outside the window, an ash-gray cloud rumbles. “…It's here already. Starting tomorrow, things are gonna get busy.”
On a day when smog turns the sky gray, a Grumble Cloud appears on the school rooftop. But Jua doesn't have a wand yet! She makes a wand all her own from the things inside Puffy's cheeks and heads into her first battle.
“Maybe every Gloomy was once a little piece of clear sky.”
Purple rain has been falling for days. No matter how hard Jua fights back with her wand, the Sigh Cloud keeps getting up again. What this one needs isn't an attack — it's a scent that wakes up happy memories.
Spritz, spritz goes her homemade perfume — and beyond the purple rain, something begins to bloom.
My room, a total mess on a Sunday. A Dust Cloud was born from the dust piled up on things I bought and never used. Wrap it up tight with the Magic Ribbon!
That night, a crown-shaped shadow appears between the clouds for the first time.
“Lately you keep disappearing out of nowhere. Are you avoiding me?” A secret Jua just can't bring herself to tell her best friend Yuna. What will Jua say?
It was Yuna who reached out first.
At the beach where Jua goes to play with Yuna, a giant Plastic Jelly rises up over the waves. A child of the sea that Ruby's power can't reach. This time, a new light is needed.
A second Juelia, shining like a pearl, awakens.
A night when the city lights are so bright that not a single star can be seen. The Plug Muncher, stuffed full of electricity, grows red-hot. Lulled to sleep by the Moonlight Music Box, it mumbles a small wish.
“I just wanna glow a little…” And an aurora blooms to grant that wish.
The Cloud Puppy Jua purified is turning black again. It was frightened by the huge crown shadow that crossed the sky last night. This time, instead of fighting, Jua uses a Crystal Heart to find its true color again.
“A Juelia's job isn't beating up monsters. It's bringing them back to who they really are.”
“Hey!!! Someone got a photo of Juelia!” One blurry photo from the day of the purple rain has the whole class in an uproar. Then Yuna says, “But isn't she about as tall as you?”
“I'm… not really going to get found out, am I?” “……Maybe?”
At lunchtime, the sky over the school splits open and Gloomies pour out all at once. Time to use every bit of magic she's gathered so far!
That night, the crowned storm cloud speaks for the first time. “…You still don't know why the Earth has grown so gloomy.”
On sports day, not a single one of the flags is fluttering. Hot air has blocked the wind paths. The relay race or the wind paths — which will Jua choose?
“Whenever you disappear, something happens. And by the time you're back, it's all over.”
One night, a letter comes out of Puffy's cheek. It says the far edge of the sky in Sparkle Land — where jewel trees grow and star candies sprout — is turning ash-gray.
When the Earth hurts, Sparkle Land hurts too.
The lunchroom leftovers bin stands up — the whole thing! Gulpy grows by eating thrown-away food, and it swallows even the light of purification.
“It's not hungry in its tummy. Its heart is hungry.”
It isn't even summer, but the schoolyard is as hot as a steam oven. Heat with nowhere to go has bunched up into a huffing, puffing Toasty. A moment that calls for the wisdom of snowflakes!
Yuna spots a snowflake in Jua's hair. “You've got something like snow on you.”
Jua wants to buy Yuna a birthday present, but there are only three coins in her piggy bank. “Topaz's gift is Fortune, right? So if I transform, does money come out!?” But what pours out isn't money — it's tiny stars.
With every star she catches, a little bit of luck comes her way.
Yuna's birthday party is finally here. Jua brought a ribbon she made herself in her pocket, but just as the candles are about to be blown out, the Gloomy alarm goes off.
“You said you'd be right back. It took a whole hour.” The ribbon she never got to give.
No matter how much water she gives it, the flowerbed soil cracks like a turtle's shell. It's Cracky, soaking up every drop. What's needed is nature's magic, the kind that puts down roots.
For the first time since the birthday, Yuna smiles.
All the lights are off, yet tiny red lights blink in every window. A little Plug Muncher has appeared, eating the power that leaks from things left plugged in.
That night, when Jua unplugged her charger, one more star came out beyond the window.
An envelope stuck to the rooftop railing: “To Big Sister Juelia.” It's a letter from seven-year-old Daon, sent with a crayon drawing.
“I really did help someone.”
At night, all the purified friends gather on the rooftop. Each of them dreamed of the time before they became Gloomies. When those memories tangle like black threads and threaten to cloud over again, no single light can undo them.
The rainbow awakens, and from beyond the clouds the Queen whispers, “…I'll be watching to see how long that light lasts, little Juelia.”
